An EF-4 tornado destroyed the residential area in the vicinity of 7th Street East in the Alberta area of Tuscaloosa in 2011. Planning efforts to help revitalize the area resulted in recommendation of a new +/- 3,700 linear foot Boulevard and shared use path. The project provided an east-west connection between an area elementary school, church, city park, and numerous residential areas. The project scope included street, storm drainage, sanitary sewer, water distribution, lighting, technology, and landscaping improvements. TTL’s services for this $6 million project included planning, environmental, geotechnical engineering, surveying, acquisition phase services, civil engineering, construction staking, construction materials testing, resident inspection, and construction administration. By providing comprehensive services from planning to design through construction administration phases, the project concept and ultimate finished product were almost identical and within budgets established very early in the concept development.
