TTL helped Hunt Oil Refining Company update the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) flood map to assist them in evaluating approximately 11,300 linear feet of the existing perimeter levee system at their facility in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The purposes of TTL’s geotechnical exploration were to collect soil samples from the existing levees, visually observe the field conditions, and to conduct laboratory tests. The results were used to determine representative engineering properties of the soils for the purpose of performing engineering analyses for slope stability, settlement potential and seepage to complete the Department of Homeland Security – Federal Emergency Management Riverine Structures Form. This would modify the existing FEMA flood boundary in the area of the Hunt Refining Facility along the Black Warrior River.
