This interceptor sewer replacement project was located in an existing residential area of the City of Tuscaloosa located from the intersection of 27th Street and Fosters Ferry Road to 29th Street just east of 40th Avenue. The existing system consisted of clay mains and brick manholes that had exceeded their service life and had significant infiltration issues. The main purpose of the project was to provide increased capacity for the interceptor sewer feeding Lift Station No. 21 which had been overloaded due to infiltration of the aging interceptor infrastructure. Most of the existing mains and manholes were located in the rear yards of residences and along an existing concrete flume. Some of these potential impacts were mitigated by rerouting the new interceptor sewer through a vacant lot.
