Case Study: Emergency Wastewater Treatment Plant Sewer Main

Emergency Wastewater project pic_Water_main,_Moreton,_Wirral_-_IMG_0806

This $1.2 million project included planning, design, and construction administration for emergency repair and relocation of a 48-inch diameter sewer main within the existing sewer treatment plant. After discovering a large sinkhole within feet of existing sewage digesters and other critical infrastructure, initial stabilization recommendations were made, followed by contingency plans for bypass of the compromised area. Upon design and installation of the primary gravity bypass main, video analysis revealed further potential pipe failure locations. Recommendations were made for extension of the bypass main up to the raw sewage pumps on the front side of the process area of the plant. Construction administration services included project observation, as-built survey of the installed pipe elements, design of modified sewer manholes with piling over the failing main, and pay request and recommendations to the owner.
