Vanderbilt University E. Bronson Ingram Residential College

For the construction of the five-story E. Bronson Ingram College at Vanderbilt University, TTL provided professional services to facilitate new college housing for 340 students, faculty members, and a residential coordinator. The 220,000-square-foot facility also included dining amenities, kitchens, multipurpose lounges, and meeting areas.

CHALLENGE

Located adjacent to the historic entrance of Vanderbilt University, E. Bronson Ingram College was built to replace a previous structure and designed to complement the gothic-style architecture prevalent across the campus. The project demanded thorough geotechnical investigation and testing to maintain compatibility with the campus's architectural heritage and integrity.

SOLUTION

TTL's contribution to the project encompassed comprehensive geotechnical engineering services. This included conducting two separate geotechnical explorations to support the planning of utilities and foundations. The building's foundation system features 97 drilled piers, the installation of which was closely observed and documented by TTL's team of experts.

In addition to geotechnical services, TTL conducted a wide array of construction materials engineering and testing. This included monitoring of concrete placements, testing of reinforcing steel, overseeing the installation of post-tension cables, assessing the integrity of masonry work, and evaluating floor flatness and levelness.

Through diligent testing and observation, TTL allowed the E. Bronson Ingram College to meet the highest standards of construction quality and integrate seamlessly with the university's storied architectural landscape.
